About Mindy Kaling
As the daughter of Indian immigrants, Kaling has a unique perspective on her heritage. Their paths crossed at a hospital in Nigeria where they both worked, and they moved to the United States in 1979.
Growing up, Kaling was fascinated by television sketch comedies such as In Living Color and Saturday Night Live, which she watched religiously.
She major in theatre at Dartmouth College (B.A., 2001) and was a member of the all-female a cappella group Rockapella and the campus improve troupe Dog Day Players during her time there. For the university newspaper, she created the popular comic Badly Drawn Girl.
