In negotiations for playing the lead role in DC’s first film. Centre on a Latino superhero, the ‘Cobra Kai’ star is set to appear.
The Hollywood Reporter has confirm that Cobra Kai actor Xolo Mariduea is in negotiations to play the lead role in Blue Beetle, which will produce by HBO Max and Warner Bros.
An earlier version of article states that Angel Manuel Soto, director of the 2020 Sundance coming-of-age drama Charm City Kings. He tap to direct DC’s first film to centre on a Latino superhero.
The script for Blue Beetle was written by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer. Who also wrote the scripts for Miss Bala and the upcoming Scarface reboot.

The film also featured Ralph Macchio, William Zabka, Courtney Henggeler, Mary Mouser, Tanner Buchanan, Martin Kove, Jacob Bertrand, Nichole Brown and Peyton List as well as Mariduea in the lead role. The Wrap of first to break the news that Mariduea was in talks to become the voice of Blue Beetle.
Hence blue beetle has appeared in multiple iterations in comic books, with the film focusing on Jaime Reyes, a teenager from El Paso who uses alien armour granted by a strange artefact to defend his hometown.
Debut From Comic Book
Reyes made his comic book debut in 2006, thanks to the efforts of creators Keith Giffen, John Rogers, and Cully Hamner.
The Suicide Squad, directed by James Gunn, will be Warner Bros.’ next big-screen release on August 6. The Blue Beetle film is expects to begin production in early 2022, according to the studio.
HBO Max is producing under the direction of John Rickard. Zev Foreman is in charge of executive production.
