He’s A Loving Death stroke Rip-Off

Anyone who has read any of the Teen Titans books or watched/played any Batman-related media knows Deathstroke. Whether they call him that or Slade.

Slade Wilson (where did that name come from?) is a mercenary who usually sells his services for the highest bidder without regard for the consequences.

The creators of Deadpool, Fabian Nicieza and Rob Liefeld, drew heavily from Deathstroke, even changing two letters in his name.

He Resisted The Anti-Hero Boom Of The Late 1980s

In the late 1980s, a slew of violent comics starring characters with ambiguous morals appeared. Perhaps as a reaction to the long-standing Comics Code Authority censorship.

Readers got anti-hero after anti-hero. No one stopped writing like Frank Miller for a long time after realising readers would go crazy for it. That was the inspiration for Deadpool. To delegitimize these popular characters.

Risky Because They Expected Deadpool To Be Canned

It’s clear from looking at Deadpool comics that they’re not standard MCU fare. This is a great place for starting if you’re new to Deadpool comics.

Some scenes in Ryan Reynolds’ films were so violent and sexually explicit that they couldn’t be released as R-rated films. That causing outrage among parents who didn’t do their homework.

The creators of Deadpool assumed Marvel would get tired of them eventually and shut down the whole thing.

X-Men Origins, Wolverine Introduced Him To The Film World

Like Deadpool, his big screen debut was a flop. Ryan Reynolds wanted to play Deadpool in a film since he was a child.

And he got his wish, We first see Deadpool in X-Men Origins, Wolverine. The subtitle implies that this film was supposed to launch a failed franchise.

In a widely-distributed pirated copy of the film, we saw an unfinished Deadpool. That possibly implying the development hell Deadpool would be stuck in.

In A Video Game, He Shared A Voice Actor With SpongeBob.

Deadpool has appeared in a number of video games over the years. With his own game released around the time of the first Deadpool film.

Due to licencing issues, almost every digital storefront has removed the game. But physical copies are still available.

Deadpool also appeared in Marvel Super Hero Squad Online. Voiced by Tom Kenny, who also voices Spongebob and Ice King from Adventure Time.

He Almost Got A Completely Different Film Take

When we first meet Deadpool in the movies, he’s been subjected to the same programme that created Wolverine.

In X-Men Origins, Wolverine, Deadpool joins Wolverine’s team as a mutant. Though we never see him do anything. He’s activated at the end and tries to kill Wolverine.

His mouth is sewn shut so he can’t talk, or so the explanation goes. But he’s not really fleshed out as Deadpool. Just a villain no one cares about. Another challenge for Logan at the end.

His Healing Abilities Are As Illogical As His Character

His healing factor is one of Deadpool’s most complex traits. Wade Wilson has cancer, Wolverine’s healing factor has been spliced into his DNA, and he wants to die.

There’s a lot going on here. It doesn’t help that Deadpool’s and Marvel’s writers seem to enjoy messing with the formula. He’s been cursed by Thanos to never die, “healed” for a short time, and so on.

The Only Marvel Hero Who Speaks ASL

X-Men Origins: Wolverine made Deadpool mute, but that’s only one part of his comic book history. Deadpool got his mouth stitched shut so the writers wouldn’t have to rewrite their movie because of him.

It wouldn’t a problem for him because he’s fluent in American Sign Language. As well as it would a nice little easter egg for those who knew it.

His Facial Scarring Suggests He Is A Murderer.

It seems like maybe that’s why he’s so horribly deformed (his facial scarring is something he takes in stride and frequently jokes about). Even if it’s just framed as another character’s conjecture. However, he stopped killing and his face cleared up.

Maybe Nothing Is True

The writers, as well as Deadpool himself, have hinted that the events in his comics, movies. As well as expanded universe may not be real.

Maybe, just maybe, Deadpool is a failed Weapon-X experiment, doped up and lying on a hospital bed somewhere.

Imagining all of his adventures happening. This would explain all of the fourth wall breaks, albeit a grim one.
